Meetings & Events

Club Meetings

All attendees (members and guests) must be fully vaccinated (received all recommended doses in  Covid-19 vaccine primary series and the most recent booster dose recommended by CDC).

Monthly club meetings are typically held at 6:00 pm the fourth Thursday at Seaman’s Lodge in Pioneer Park, 427 Nimrod Street, Nevada City. Offsite events include the May annual picnic and our August Rescue Clinic.

These gatherings are social, recreational, and informational in nature. Presentations offer information associated with the sport of paddling through speakers, videos, and slideshows. The meeting often includes a potluck dinner. Details will be emailed to our members and can also be found in our newsletter.

If you are not a member and wish to check us out, you are invited to join us. Contact Susan Rossman, Membership Chair at

Past Meetings and Events

Thursday, February 23:  Extreme Kayaking for the Fearless: CANCELLED… TO BE RESCHEDULED
In February, when most SNCKC members are curled up by the fireplace, we can ratchet up our adrenaline for a brief while as we watch what the fearless (or otherwise?) kayakers do on Class 6 rapids and waterfalls to entertain themselves and prove their testosterone levels. It will be fun and exciting to watch a few brief videos. Then we can go back to looking forward to our safe, flat, and beautiful lake and river trips coming up.  Social and Potluck Dinner 6:00-6:30 followed at 7:00 by a brief business meeting and the program

Thursday, January 26:  Seven Classic Paddle Camping Destinations in North America:  Five members collaborated to introduce members to these unique and magnificent places to paddle, with fleeting references to trips we’ve done there.

Thursday, October 27:  Sierra Streams Institute’s Helen Fitanides and South Yuba River Citizens League’s Kyle McNeil presented their water quality monitoring programs on the Yuba River, Bear River and Deer Creek.

Thursday, September 22:  A video presentation by Gary Moon illustrating various kayak skills who picked some videos best suited to our members’ needs. The last video will be a scenic “dessert” showing kayakers exploring the beautiful Maine coast.

Thursday, August 25:  Thomas Schuebel, certified Kayak Instructor and honorary SNCKC member, led us in assisted and self-rescue techniques demonstration and practice.

Thursday, July 28:  Laurie Appling and Dennis Coulter presented a slide show to share their September 2021 16-day experience in the Grand Canyon of paddling, rafting, camping, and hiking their way down the Colorado River.

Thursday, October 28:  British Pub Quiz Night with June Anderson. In most British pubs it’s a tradition to have a Quiz Night once a week. The first SNCKC quiz night was in 2013 and it was time for another fun evening of kayak-related trivia! Hope we don’t have to wait too long for the next one.

Thursday, September 23: All member program meeting at Seaman’s Lodge with pizza dinner followed by a presentation of three members’ kayaking vacation: Columbia River Kayaking Adventure at Skamokawa Resort, Washington.
